Psychedelic Portal by Peyton Stewart was painted live during Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE: Finale event in September 2019.
The art was curated by Hot Kitchen, a theater and performance collective, and commissioned by the Chicago Loop Alliance Foundation. Celebrating the City of Chicago’s Year of Chicago Theatre, the artist describes the mural as “magical images for the magic of theater.” Stewart is best known as a freehand tattoo artist, but she is also a painter and illustrator. Her work uses repetitive symbols and explores themes like death, loss, freedom, and beauty.
