"Play" by Roho Garcia was painted live during Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE: Playground event in June 2017 and the street art-style mural depicts a little girl having fun.
It was curated by Missy Perkins and John Ibarra. The meaning of the title is twofold. Not only is the girl in the image having fun, but Garcia was actually “playing” music while she was being created. Garcia simultaneously painted a mural and DJ’d one of Chicago Loop Alliance’s most successful events to date, leaving the audience stunned. Roho Garcia is a Chicago-based artist and teacher, having taught at After School Matters and the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen.
