From historic buildings that escaped the Chicago Fire of 1871 to stunning contemporary designs, explore how Chicago's schools have been adapted for today's needs.
Beginning with the first two-story structure in 1845 through to today’s collection of more than 640 schools, the changes in structure and design of Chicago’s public-school buildings have reflected evolving ideas about education, child development, health, and community.
This program is supported by a gift of the Gary family in memory of Myra Gary and in honor of the Docents’ 50th Anniversary.
Tickets are $8 for non-members, free for CAC members and students
