Book Talk: "Chicago: An Illustrated Timeline"

Every city has its foundational stories. In this talk, CAC Program Director Hallie Rosen discusses Chicago: An Illustrated Timeline with author and CAC docent Ellen Shubart, which chronicles the city?s growth from trading post to global metropolis.

Sprouting up along a swampy slow-moving river in a sea of prairie grass, Chicago is an unexpected success story. From its inauspicious start as a trading post, an emerging transportation and manufacturing hub took shape becoming a magnet for immigrants seeking jobs and a better life. With vignettes and vivid photography, Chicago: An Illustrated Timeline depicts the journey from frontier outpost to megacity. Program attendees can purchase Chicago: An Illustrated Timeline through Barbara’s Bookstores. Use the Code ‘EVENT’ and receive a 10% discount.

This program is supported by a gift of the Gary family in memory of Myra Gary and in honor of the Docents’ 50th Anniversary.
