1 MIN READ – Some businesses in the Chicago Loop were damaged during looting late on August 9 and into the early morning of August 10. As Mayor Lori Lightfoot solidifies details for downtown travel restrictions from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., some Loop businesses that were not damaged have made the decision to temporarily close.
“Coronavirus alone has presented unimaginable challenges to Loop businesses, which rely on our worker population to stay afloat. Pedestrian activity in the Loop is still down by about 70 percent compared to the same time last year, as many people continue working from home,” said Chicago Loop Alliance President and CEO Michael Edwards. “With now two waves of property damage on top of COVID-19, these businesses really need Chicago’s support. We have an online tool at LoopChicago.com/WhatsOpen with information about dining, shopping, attractions and more. The Loop is everyone’s neighborhood, where Chicagoans from every zip code come together, and we all need to work together to be sure the Loop remains vibrant and strong for everyone to enjoy.”
Businesses in the Loop damaged by looting include: Block 37 (108 N. State St.), Foot Locker (219 S. State St.), Macy’s (111 N. State St.), Nando’s Peri-Peri (22 S. Wabash Ave.), Staples (111 N. Wabash Ave.), Target (1 S. State St.) and Wedding Bands (2 N. Wabash Ave.).
Businesses in the Loop closed on Aug. 10 include: The Art Institute of Chicago (111 S. Michigan Ave.), Grant Park Bistro (800 S. Michigan Ave.), Land & Lake Kitchen (81 E. Wacker Drive), Sugar Bliss Patisserie (122 S. Wabash Ave.) and UNIQLO (22 N. State St.).
Chicago Loop Alliance is coordinating board-up services between Loop businesses and the City of Chicago Department of Buildings.
