Your Place or Mime?

Your Place or Mime? by Afrokilla was painted live during Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE: Premiere event in June 2019.

Unfortunately, this mural has been removed. The mural was originally curated by Missy Perkins and Roe Melloe and commissioned by the Chicago Loop Alliance Foundation. Reacting to the popularity of previous ACTIVATE events, the curator team decided to place this mural outside of the event where the entrance line would form, so that attendees could enjoy watching a mural being painted while waiting to be admitted. This mural plays off the performance theme of the event, to celebrate the City of Chicago’s Year of Chicago Theatre. It depicts two mimes that each represent emotions in theater. The skull is a representation of spiritual connectivity, a signature mark by Afrokilla. Afrokilla is a Chicago-based artist whose work draws from spiritual, psychedelic, skateboarding, and pop culture influences. His work largely aims to add color and beauty to urban spaces.
