The Chicago Community Trust

The Chicago Community Trust is a community foundation dedicated to strengthening the Chicago region by creating equity, opportunity, and prosperity for all people who call it home.

For more than 100 years, The Chicago Community Trust has united generous donors, committed nonprofits, and caring residents to effect lasting change. Donors entrust their philanthropic resources and visions to our stewardship. Guided by their deep knowledge of the community, they fund, lead, convene, and collaborate to address the greatest and most critical needs facing the Chicago region. From the $22 million raised to help with unemployment relief in the Great Depression to spearheading an effort to help people keep their homes during the foreclosure crisis of the Great Recession, to more than $35 million raised for the Chicago Community COVID-19 Response Fund to support nonprofits serving their most vulnerable neighbors, Chicagoans have put their trust in us.

In 2019, the Trust embarked on a 10-year strategic plan to address one of the most critical challenges of our times — closing the racial and ethnic wealth gap for the Chicago region while responding to their most vulnerable residents’ critical needs. They envision a Chicago region that’s stronger and more prosperous because everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, or zip code—has equitable access to the opportunities and resources they need to succeed and live a fulfilling life. They believe this vision is possible if they address the racial and ethnic economic disparities that impact all Chicagoans. This is at the root of so many pressing concerns in the region: violence, poor health, population loss, and economic decline, to name a few.
