Sign up for SAIC Continuing Education Course "From Drawing to Painting"

Take a painting and drawing class with acclaimed conceptual artist Shonna Pryor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago this summer!

From Drawing to Painting is the perfect course for adult students who know the basics of drawing, but have little to no painting experience. A variety of traditional and contemporary materials are taught, and free trips to the Art Institute of Chicago museum and discussions of practicing artists will supplement the studio experience. To study with Shonna this summer, sign up for From Drawing to Painting before May 23rd. 

With exception to June 19, the course will meet every Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. starting Wednesday, May 29 through Wednesday, August 7. 

About Shonna:

Pryor gathers inspiration for her practice from across genres, employing aesthetics from Afrofuturism and Cubism to create installations, paintings, and sculptural works. When she is not leading students to experiment with volume and space on the canvas, Pryor is busy embarking on her summer residency at Homan Square. Her project The Lost and Found Family Reunion will lead the resident participants of Lawndale on a journey that deep-dives into ancestral roots to recover lost bloodline relatives and their legacies. Her Afrofuturist Care Packages are on display in Felicific until April 25th at the Chicago Artists Coalition. Pryor is also a member of The Greystone Collective, who are showcasing a four-part series called Indelible ORIGINS | Place + People running through November 2nd. Greystone focuses their lens on the architecture and environments of Bronzeville, “Chicago’s landmark Black Metropolis.”
