Power to the People by Sam Kirk was created for Chicago Loop Alliance’s ACTIVATE: Network event in August 2017.
This mural was curated by Ursula Andreeff and commissioned by the Chicago Loop Alliance Foundation. The event was a celebration of the electricity that makes cities run. Rather than depict that electricity literally, the artist decided to highlight women who work in electricity and trades, and use the prominent Downtown location to increase visibility for working women of color. Sam Kirk is a multidisciplinary artist who explores identity and intersectionality in her art, focusing on the experiences of the LGBTQIA community and women of color.
