Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) presents rhythm-culture in performances, education programs and community development initiatives that foster great art, social reconciliation and economic justice.
The Chicago Human Rhythm Project (CHRP) builds community through percussive foot drumming via world-class, innovative performances, education, and outreach programs. Percussive dance is one of the oldest forms of human expression, and tap dance is America's unique contribution to the evolution of this ancient art form. CHRP celebrates the primal impulse to create rhythm, offering year-round programs that bring together diverse individuals and communities to share in this universal experience.
CHRP hosts annual performance and education programs at notable Chicago venues, including the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center, the Studebaker Theater, the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, the historic Jazz Showcase, the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, and the Fine Arts Building. CHRP's outreach program, We ALL Got Rhythm, provides in-school and after-school arts education classes at many elementary schools across Chicago, such as the British International School, Catalyst Circle Rock Charter School, Cameron Elementary, and others. These programs often include CHRP's acclaimed lecture-demonstration, which has reached more than 60,000 schoolchildren over the past five years. Together, we dance, create, and move forward as a community.
CHRP calls the Mayfair Arts Center its home, where it offers classes, rents studio space, and supports other dance companies within the community, helping them grow and thrive.
