Beyond the Nutcracker

Now in its 11th year, Ballet 5:8’s Beyond the Nutcracker returns as one of Chicagoland’s most uplifting holiday traditions. This imaginative retelling of the classic ballet blends Tchaikovsky’s beloved score with a heartwarming story.

This season, Beyond the Nutcracker offers two enchanting weekends at Lincoln-Way North Performing Arts Center in Frankfort. Weekend One (Dec. 6–7) features performances with Tchaikovsky’s recorded score, while Weekend Two (Dec. 13–14) brings the unforgettable experience of live music performed by the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra. Created by Ballet 5:8 Artistic Director Julianna Rubio Slager, this original production follows Emma and her Uncle Abrahms through 1940s England in a story that reveals the deeper meaning of Christmas. With stunning choreography, professional dancers from across the country, and a festive Christkindl-style market before and after each show, Beyond the Nutcracker is a complete holiday outing for the whole family.
