2 MIN READ – The Wabash Lights (TWL) is an interactive light installation located on the underside of the Wabash Avenue 'L' tracks in the Chicago Loop.
The Wabash Lights (TWL) mission is to create Chicago’s first interactive public art platform. In the heart of the Chicago Loop, on a piece of iconic infrastructure, they are building a place where art and technology come together in a canvas of light to foster public discourse and personal expression. They are installing a full block of programmable LED lights on the underside of the Wabash 'L' tracks. The lights can be connected to movements and sounds like a heartbeat, the tap of a drum, or the rhythm of a favorite song. The result will be a canvas of light for any person, anywhere, to use as a vehicle for expression.
TWL's long-term goal is to install lights along the entire Wabash stretch of track from Lake to Van Buren. Phase One plans include over 20,000 total feet of lights along a two-block stretch from Madison to Adams.
Join The Wabash Lights on Thursday, Aug 15 at 8:15pm CDT for a celebration and reveal of this one-of-a-kind, interactive light installation. RSVP here to get a free Pretty Cool popsicle, courtesy of Pie. Learn more about the project here.
