4 MIN READ – The Democratic National Convention (DNC) will take place in Chicago on August 19 through August 22. Whether you’re a local or visiting from afar, here's what you need to know to navigate the city and the Chicago Loop during DNC week.
Location & Preparation
The main DNC action will be taking place outside of the Loop, therefore the Loop will not be seeing much impact in street closures or restrictions. The DNC's main events will be centered around two venues: McCormick Place, at 2301 S. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and the United Center, at 1901 W. Madison St. The surrounding areas to these venues will limit access to pedestrians and drivers. For impacted areas, reference the road restrictions maps below and visit the Loop Advisories webpage here for a detailed list of street closures.
The Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) website is serving as the hub for local information. Please refer to OEMC's DNC Outreach Toolkit and FAQ page for more information.
How to get around
In Chicago, all roads (and trains!) lead to the Loop. Whether you prefer public transit, biking, driving, being driven, or walking, getting to and from the Loop couldn't be easier!
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the nation's second largest public transportation system and covers the City of Chicago and 35 surrounding suburbs with service via buses and "L" trains. For the best value, purchase a 1-Day, 3-Day, or 7-Day for unlimited rides (30-day pass is also available). Fares and more information can be found online. Other ways to get around town include Divvy bikes, rideshares, taxis, cars, and even a water taxi. Read the 'Get to the Loop' for more details on how to access all modes of transportation in Chicago.
Wake up at a hotel in the midst of Chicago’s downtown attractions, just a short ride away from United Center and McCormick place via the CTA trains or car. Consider indulging in the vibrant environment of the Chicago Loop. See all your hotel options here.
WHERE TO EAT & Drink
