“What started as an initiative to support the Loop’s economic recovery post-pandemic has transformed into one of the city’s marquee events,” said Chicago Loop Alliance President and CEO Michael Edwards. “And the transition to the fall season allows our organization to support the other major events – like Lollapalooza, NASCAR Chicago and more – that make Chicago spectacularly world-class, while also positioning our programming to both leverage the momentum we’ve built with Sundays on State and celebrate the Loop as a destination for arts and culture during any season.”
“Sundays on State is a great representation of the soul of Chicago and gathers Chicagoans on one of the city’s most iconic thoroughfares, celebrating the power of community,” said Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson. “Chicago Loop Alliance’s award-winning event series serves as a model for authentic programming that serves each and every Chicagoan regardless of zip code.”
“DCASE is proud to continue our support of Sundays on State, uniting the city through accessible arts and culture in the heart of the Loop," said Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) Commissioner Clinée Hedspeth. "Sundays on State is a proven way to support businesses, artists and entertainers — bringing joy to Chicagoans and visitors alike.”
The chosen street activations were submitted by members of the Chicago community and beyond, and feature over 93% underrepresented business owners, including 74% women-owned businesses, 31% minority-owned businesses and 11% LGBTQ+-owned businesses with overlaps in several categories.
