Plan a perfect cozy day in the Loop

Posted  3 years ago

MIN READ – Chicagoans are always fighting cabin fever during the winter, but especially so this year. Consider getting #BackInTheLoop for a perfect cozy day downtown. Take yourself shopping, dine out on a heated patio or rooftop, support small businesses, take in the sights, and maybe even book yourself a swanky hotel for the night. The possibilities are endless, so bundle up and make some memories.

Shop for cozy apparel

State Street in the Loop is one of the most storied shopping districts in the country. From international flagship stores to smaller brands and local businesses, you’ll find it all. Start your cozy day out by wandering through stores like Macy’sUNIQLO, the shops at Block 37, and more to find the perfect pieces for many cozy days to come. After all, you know how long a Chicago winter can last!

Dine out

Restaurants across the city have gotten creative amid the state’s indoor dining ban. You may think eating outside in the dead of a Chicago winter sounds crazy, but if you give it a shot, you'll find that it’s quite cozy. Check out your options for patios and rooftops here. Order a nice warm beverage and heaping plate of something hot, and you’ll warm up in no time. Plus, it’ll make for a great story for years to come.

Enjoy some sweets

Whether you need some dessert or are looking for a sweet snack, stop by Sugar Bliss at 115 N. Wabash for a Hot Chocolate Bomb ($5). (Beginning January 1, Sugar Bliss will be located at their Palmer House spot at 122 S. Wabash.) Owner Teresa Ging attended Le Cordon Bleu Patisserie program in Paris and opened Sugar Bliss over 10 years ago. Ging has won many awards and was even invited by President Obama to attend the signing of the White House Council on Women & Girls. Support a small business in the Loopand satisfy your sweet tooth? Sounds like a win-win.

Take in the public art

Like an outdoor museum, the Chicago Loop is host to a stellar public art collection. Grab a thermos of hot chocolate, and wander the streets to take in the sights. Check out Chicago Loop Alliance’s public art guide—the collection of great works downtown extends way beyond The Bean.
