The street continues to blossom into a culturally vibrant destination\u00a0due to the work of Chicago Loop Alliance, the\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/about-state-street-ssa1-2015\/\" target=\"_blank\">sole service provider for State Street Special Service Area #1-2015<\/a>. \u00a0Here\u2019s a quick look at the major activities on State Street in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/chicago-architecture-center-teen-fellows-reimagine-the-gateway\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Gateway Reimagined<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/The-Gateway_2__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">In collaboration with <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cannondesign.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CannonDesign<\/a>, Chicago Loop Alliance tasked students in the Chicago Architecture Center\u2019s Teen Fellows program <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/chicago-architecture-center-teen-fellows-reimagine-the-gateway\/\" target=\"_blank\">to reimagine the Gateway<\/a>, a formerly underutilized median on State Street that in 2013 was transformed into a popular gathering place for visitors, workers, residents, and students.\u00a0Ideas the students came up with included incorporating native landscaping, including foliage that will attract Monarch butterflies; creating a map on the floor of The Gateway listing various major attractions in the Loop; adding creative lighting; providing a variety of seating to allow for socializing and eating as well as privacy; and engaging local artists to create mosaics on planters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/the-shape-of-chicago-john-masseys-1968-banners-revisited-takes-over-state-street\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Shape of Chicago Took Over State Street<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/The-Shape-of-Chicago-Banners-on-State-Street__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">In partnership with Terra Foundation for American Art and Chicago Design Museum, Chicago Loop Alliance <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/the-shape-of-chicago-john-masseys-1968-banners-revisited-takes-over-state-street\/\" target=\"_blank\">celebrated <em>The Shape of Chicago: John Massey\u2019s 1968 Banners Revisited<\/em><\/a> as part of City of Chicago\u2019s <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/city\/en\/depts\/dca\/supp_info\/yocy.html\" target=\"_blank\">Year of Creative Youth<\/a>. Massey\u2019s 1968 banners were reproduced and hung on State Street in the Loop from August 1-31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/do312.com\/urbanlegends\" target=\"_blank\">The Chicago Loop Hosted Urban Legends<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Urban-Legends-Party-31__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">In the Chicago Theatre alley on State Street, Chicago Loop Alliance partnered with the Chicago Bulls to celebrate Urban Legends, the beginning of the 2018-2019 NBA season. This ACTIVATE-inspired event was an immersive pop-up experience that enabled Chicagoans from different walks of life to experience multi-sensory art installations designed to inspire and capture legendary experiences at the intersection of art and basketball. Guests enjoyed free haircuts, a photo op with Benny the Bull and championship trophies, a contest to snag tickets to the Bulls game, vintage arcade games, music by the Bulls\u2019 DJ, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/about-us\/projects\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lightscape Lit Up<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Lightscape-in-Snow_Photo-Credit-JJ-Jetel-for-Chicago-Loop-Alliance__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">With lively light displays that harmoniously dance to cheerful music\u00a0<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/about-us\/projects\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lightscape<\/a> continues to bring a joyful vibe to State Street. It celebrated the unique performances of the Loop\u2019s Theatre District, featuring the soundtracks to productions like <em>Waitress<\/em>, <em>Pretty Woman<\/em>, <em>The Nutcracker<\/em>, and more. For the first time, Lightscape celebrated the end of daylight savings time with a playlist of popular songs about light accompanying a twinkling display during November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/short-cuts-a-new-pop-up-art-experience-to-activate-chicagos-pedway\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Short-Cuts\u2019 Activated the Pedway<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Short-Cuts-in-Chicagos-Pedway__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">Underneath State Street,\u00a0<em><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/short-cuts-a-new-pop-up-art-experience-to-activate-chicagos-pedway\/\" target=\"_blank\">Short-Cut<\/a><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/short-cuts-a-new-pop-up-art-experience-to-activate-chicagos-pedway\/\" target=\"_blank\">s<\/a><\/em> transformed overlooked spaces into unexpected and memorable places through pop-up performances and exhibitions in the Chicago Pedway. Artists and designers showcased their creations \u201coff the grid\u201d in the Loop\u2019s underground tunnel system, inviting the public to experience the Loop\u2019s well-used but underappreciated Pedway in a new light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"loop-h2 wp-block-heading\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/about-state-street-ssa1-2015\/chicago-loop-ambassadors\/\" target=\"_blank\">Street Team Ambassadors Kept State Clean and Welcoming<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/12_05_17-Street-Ambassadors-10-credit-Joshua-Albanese-for-Chicago-Loop-Alliance__FocusFillWzEsMSwieCIsMF0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">Chicago Loop Alliance\u2019s Street Team Ambassadors continued to make State Street safer for workers, residents, and visitors.
