The initiative, intended to unite and promote the Loop community, includes participation from cultural institutions, residents, property owners, schools, community organizations, Loop businesses, individual Chicagoans and <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/do-business\/media\/press-releases\/chicago-loop-alliance-designates-the-loop-everyones-neighborhood\/\">Mayor Lightfoot<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">To spread the word, Chicago Loop Alliance installed banners and street-level signage with the \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d moniker along State Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">From July 6-13, prominent buildings in the Loop, including Willis Tower, <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/downtown-buildings-light-up-as-part-of-everyones-neighborhood-initiative\/\">lit up blue<\/a> to celebrate \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood.\u201d This light-up initiative was coordinated in partnership with the Building Owners and Managers Association of Chicago. Prominent institutions like the Chicago Theatre, Nederlander Theatre, Auditorium Theatre and Joffrey Ballet used their marquees to share the \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d message. Digital and print graphics of the message were distributed to hundreds of other businesses and offices throughout the Loop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/chicago-theatre-marquee-credit-Chicago-Loop-Alliance.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">Organizations and individuals have also gotten in the spirit of \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d by using <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%23backintheloop&amp;src=typed_query&amp;f=live\" target=\"_blank\">#BackInTheLoop<\/a> on social media to share their longing and nostalgia for the Loop, or to tell how they\u2019re returning, rebuilding, and re-adapting (or how they never left).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">From the onset, it was important to Chicago Loop Alliance that the \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d initiative encourage community actions, not just words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe chose this nickname because we believe the Loop is everyone\u2019s neighborhood; that\u2019s evident in our workforce and in the people who come downtown from across the city for things like our world-class public art, free Millennium Park programming, shopping and other attractions,\u201d said Chicago Loop Alliance President and CEO Michael Edwards. \u201cBut we also intend for it to be inspiring and aspirational, and to encourage greater inclusion. We hope this new moniker will make the Loop\u2019s decision makers even more aware of how they can use their positions in this city to unite Chicagoans from every ZIP code.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">A few Chicago Loop Alliance members shared what they\u2019re doing to embody the \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d nickname.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/listings\/the-art-institute-of-chicago\/\">The Art Institute of Chicago<\/a> provides <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artic.edu\/visit\/free-admission-opportunities\" target=\"_blank\">free access<\/a> to children under 14, Chicago teens under 18, Link and WIC cardholders, active-duty military, and Illinois educators every day. Free hours and free days are offered to Illinois residents throughout the year. The Art Institute is also committed to <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.artic.edu\/articles\/841\/our-commitment-to-racial-justice-and-equity\" target=\"_blank\">racial justice and equity<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/AIC.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cInclusion \u2013 and the strength, energy and diversity of perspectives that comes with it \u2013 has always been essential to the legacy of the Art Institute, and our relevance to future generations,\u201d said James Rondeau<em>, <\/em>President and Eloise W. Martin Director of the Art Institute of Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/listings\/chicago-athletic-association-hotel\/\">Chicago Athletic Association Hotel<\/a> is giving back to their neighbors, who have given them so much. For every booking, they&#8217;re donating $25 to local nonprofit <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formyblock.org\/small-business-relief-fund\" target=\"_blank\">My Block My Hood My City&#8217;s small business relief fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Chicago-Athletic-Association-Junior-Suite-King-With-Millennium-Park-View-5-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.willistower.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Willis Tower<\/a> is undergoing the biggest restorative transformation in its nearly 50-year history to become an energetic, welcoming neighborhood destination for tenants, Loop workers, visitors and locals alike. The transformation includes the addition of Catalog, a curated dining, entertainment and community experience, as well as a 30,000-square-foot outdoor deck and garden, evolving at the base of the Tower. Catalog extends the streetscape, creates community, and immerses visitors in a true Chicago environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">And although the iconic <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/listings\/auditorium-theatre\/\">Auditorium Theatre<\/a> is closed to the public right now, the organization is hard at work creating a more inclusive, diverse, equitable and accessible institution, and bringing its offerings to everyone online. They\u2019re finding new ways to connect, even when it\u2019s not possible to physically be together in the Loop. Community members near and far can keep up with the Auditorium by watching the theatre&#8217;s\u00a0<em><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLd07BANHRDTgJ-Btxn1Eex7Ll1k3jxC5m\" target=\"_blank\">At Home With the Auditorium<\/a><\/em> and <em><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PLd07BANHRDThrMPXgNnS6ouXYOQlrdAkS\" target=\"_blank\">#AudTalk<\/a> <\/em>video series, checking out <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.auditoriumtheatre.org\/uncategorized\/usa-history-the-aud-wwii-service\" target=\"_blank\">theatre history<\/a>\u00a0on the Auditorium&#8217;s website, and joining a theatre watch party on Facebook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/07.09.20-EN-banners-03-credit-Organic-Headshots-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">While the Loop\u2019s essential workers and <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/economicprofile2019\/\">20,000 residents<\/a> never left, the neighborhood saw an <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/loop-footfall-down-by-more-than-80-percent\/\">80-percent drop in pedestrian activity<\/a> during the state\u2019s stay at home order, illustrating the importance of the Loop\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/economicprofile2019\/\">370,000 workers and millions of annual visitors<\/a>. Chicago has the second largest business district in the U.S. outside of Midtown Manhattan, and members of the large worker population in the Loop hail from every neighborhood in Chicago and beyond, which was the chief motivation for earning the \u201cEveryone\u2019s Neighborhood\u201d moniker. Prior to COVID-19, many Loop workers spent more of their waking hours in the Loop than their own neighborhoods; and as home to some of Chicago\u2019s greatest icons, visitors often picture the Loop first when they think of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">The COVID-19 crisis elevated efforts to keep the Loop a safe, clean and healthy place for all. Chicago Loop Alliance has continuously coordinated <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/clas-power-washing-vendor-disinfects-state-street\/\">power washings that incorporate a virucide monthly<\/a> in an effort to kill strains of COVID-19 on street-level surfaces. The <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/join\/about-state-street-ssa1-2015\/chicago-loop-ambassadors\/\">Chicago Loop Ambassadors<\/a> have also been on the street seven days a week <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/chicago-loop-alliance-ambassadors-secure-new-equipment-for-improved-disinfecting-on-state-street\/\">cleaning and disinfecting touch points<\/a> like bike racks, garbage cans and door handles, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/chicago-loop-alliance-and-saic-provide-portable-toilets-for-homeless\/\">connecting people experiencing homelessness with resources they need<\/a>. And after sweeping vandalism of the downtown area on May 29 and 30, Chicago Loop Alliance connected businesses with artists Missy Perkins and Barrett Keithley, who conceived of a project called <a href=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/es\/in-the-loop\/artists-transform-boarded-up-storefronts-with-hopeful-murals\/\">\u201cPaint the City,\u201d<\/a> which transformed boarded up businesses with hopeful murals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large loop-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/loopchicago.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/07.09.20-EN-planter-signage-02-credit-Organic-Headshots-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lc-post-paragraph wp-block-paragraph\">The Loop&#8217;s boundaries are the Chicago River to the north and west, Ida B.
