Loop Chicago

Landscaping

SSA #1 funds seasonal landscaping in nearly 100 planters along nine blocks of State Street.

In the warmer months, the sidewalk comes alive with shrubs, perennials, tropicals and annuals, while winter plantings include fresh-cut evergreen and a pop of red. Chicago Loop Alliance has also repurposed two former CTA subway entrances at Washington Street, replacing the vacant stairwells with flower beds.

2014: By the Numbers

  • SSA #1 is responsible for 15,000 square feet of planters in addition to the Gateway at State and Lake streets
