Loop Chicago

Pop-Up Art Loop

Pop-Up Art Loop™ transforms empty storefronts in the Loop into cultural activations open to the public.

The program, which establishes partnerships between artists and property owners, creates temporary gallery, exhibition and interactive space at no cost to the artist in prime Loop locations. Since its launch in 2009, it has activated more than 30 spaces in the Loop and showcased hundreds of artists and arts organizations in countless exhibitions. And in 2011 it was recognized by two distinguished downtown organizations—Friends of Downtown and the International Downtown Association—for its creative approach to enlivening and improving the downtown.

Despite the improving retail economy, which has led to fewer available spaces in the Loop, the program has still proven successful in driving traffic downtown and generating buzz for properties. In 2013, it welcomed international arts partnerships, distinguished artists and record-breaking attendance at its summer gallery walks.
