Things to do this Spring in the Chicago Loop
Spring is in the air, well almost. We’ve had a few unseasonably warm days this winter, but the official start to spring is next week. We can’t contain our excitement for beautiful tulip-lined streets and the chance to ditch those bulky winter jackets for some fresh spring fashion. To kick-off the season, we put together a list of our favorite spring activities.
Macy’s Flower Show
From March 26 through April 9, Macy’s on State Street will transform into a floral wonderland for its annual spring flower show. This year’s theme is “American Carnival,” and will showcase the quirks and delights of early 20th century fairs with breathtaking floral scenes, fantasy flowers and lush plants from around the world. This free event will also feature a line-up of exciting floral arrangement classes, cooking demonstrations, samplings and unique carnival themed entertainment.
Chicago Architecture Foundation Tours
Chicago Architecture Foundation’s river cruises return this April. Marvel at Chicago’s architectural gems as you sail along the Chicago River during this 90 minute guided tour of Chicago’s buildings and history. The tour was voted “top tour in Chicago and one of the top ten tours in the U.S.” according to TripAdvisor.
My Fair Lady at Lyric Opera
Each spring, Lyric Opera produces a grand-scale musical that takes the Loop’s Theatre District by storm. This year’s American classic, My Fair Lady, is sure to charm you with its heartwarming story and beloved musical classics including “On the Street Where You Live,” “Get Me to the Church on Time,” “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?,” and the infectious “I Could Have Danced All Night.”
