Loop's first commercial movie theater since 1989 coming to Block Thirty Seven
Coming soon to a Loop near you: a dine-in movie theater.
AMC Theaters will open the Loop's first commercial movie theater since 1989 in the upper floors of Block Thirty Seven by early 2016, the mall's owners announced today. According to the Chicago Tribune, the 11-screen theater "will feature AMC's signature MacGuffin's Bar and Lounge in the lobby and will be the first in the city to offer AMC's 'Cinema Suites' experience. Cinema Suites, for people 18 and older, features power recliners with individual tables for theater dining and cocktails for those of age, brought by servers called by the push of a button."
The news comes during a busy year for the mall. In January, ownership announced that celebrity chef Richard Sandoval would be creating "a hub of Latin American cuisine" on the third floor of the building, with a smaller outpost planned for the Pedway. Further details and an opening date have yet to be announced.
Plans have also been revealed, with construction beginning, for the long-awaited residential tower that will accompany Block Thirty Seven. As we reported last month, the company has secured the initial permits for the construction of a new 34-story, 690-unit apartment tower situated on top of mall, which will be the largest by-unit apartment building in the central business district upon its completion.
